Tuesday Evening Concert Series fills Executive Director Position

August 19, 2023

As released by the Tuesday Evening Concert Series

Dear Friends:

As our new season approaches, I am delighted to announce that we have filled the position of Executive Director of the Series. David J. Baldwin has accepted our offer and will begin on September 5. He has the unanimous endorsement of the Search Committee and the Board of Directors. As you get to know him, we believe you will agree that he fulfills the promise I made to you in February that we would choose a successor who could demonstrate the qualities and skills that have shaped Karen’s legacy.

David’s previous positions include Executive Director of Fontana Chamber Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan and the Shriver Hall Concert Series at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He also served for many years as an artist manager at Opus 3 Artists (previously ICM Artists) in London and New York where he represented artists including Yefim Bronfman, Colin Currie, Jeremy Denk, Leon Fleisher, Garrick Ohlsson and Emmanuel Pahud, among others. David earned a BA in music from the University of Pennsylvania and studied collaborative piano and chamber music with Vladimir Sokoloff at the Curtis Institute of Music.

David emerged from a field of some 50 applicants who came to us from across the country. Throughout the process he clearly articulated his passion for chamber music and his respect for the reputation TECS has earned at home and abroad.  When he visited Charlottesville in July as one of four finalists, it was clear that he had done his homework and was enthusiastic about the prospect of living and working here.

The search for a new Executive Director has gone quite smoothly, with much credit and thanks going to Paul Mahoney who chaired the Search Committee. I was privileged to work with him along with Board members Bob Chevalier and Mary Jane King. The guidance of cultural management consultant Margaret Genovese kept us focused throughout the spring and summer.

And now we turn to the fall and the opening of the 2023-24 season. I look forward to seeing all of you on October 10 when we welcome musicians Augustin Hadelich and Orion Weiss as well as our new Executive Director, David Baldwin.

Sincerely,

David C. Speedie

President
