The Arts Council is thrilled to welcome a new leader to its team, Executive Director, Jonathan Stone. He most recently served as Executive Director of the Downtown Oregon City Association. There, he introduced new community traditions and events as well as expanded outreach and partnerships. Under his leadership, Downtown Oregon City Association was awarded the prestigious Great American Main Street Award in 2018. He begins work at the Arts Council on January 14.
“I’ve enjoyed learning about Flagstaff’s arts, traditions, and culture,” says Jonathan. “Flagstaff is a vibrant community enriched by the efforts of the Flagstaff Arts Council. I look forward to working with the board, staff, volunteers, and partners to continue to put arts and science at the center of community life.”
Prior to his career in nonprofit management, Jonathan worked in architecture and has focused in historic business district revitalization. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from Boston Architectural College and an MS-MBA from Boston University.
“We are so pleased to have Jonathan join us as Executive Director in January,” says Arts Council Board President Dorlee Henderson. “He is innovative, energetic and has great experience with community building and developing and maintaining a sense of place. We believe that he will be a good fit with both Flagstaff and the Flagstaff Arts Council!”
The new executive director, Stone, joins a veteran staff with a great deal of experience and expertise in the arts. Deputy Director Elizabeth Vogler has a decade of experience in the arts and culture industry, working at both the Arts Council and The Arboretum at Flagstaff. Marketing Director Sarah Smallwood’s background in graphic design and management at both the Coconino Center for the Arts and The Orpheum Theater. Kris Kosola has been leading theatrical productions for many years, and both Mario Samano and Rachel Howard have been involved with the Arts Council for several years. Is excited about joining the staff and the community in celebrating Flagstaff’s arts and science achievements at this year’s Viola Awards Ceremony.
